PUPPETS - MAYILATTAM / POI KAL KUTHIRAI(MADHUBANI STYLE)




Mayilattam (Peacock dance ) and Poikal kuthirai(False leg horse dance ) are very famous folk dances in TamilNadu . These are now a days performed in village festivals or in government functions representing TamilNadu . Linking this to Shruti's Folk Art Challenge .



MATERIALS REQUIRED :

OHP Sheets
Glass painting colours
Pencil
Erasers
Popsicles
Glue
Thread
OHP Markers

STEPS TO BE FOLLOWED :

1) Pencil Sketch the figures in plain paper .



2) Trace the figures to OHP using markers .
3) Colour it using glass painting colours and allow it to dry.



4) Glue the OHP sheet to a plain paper . Cut out the pictures .
5) Glue popsicles to the painitng one in the top and other in the bottom
6) Tie a thick thread to both the top sticks of both the paintings.
7) Hold the middle of the thread to show puppets dancing to your kids.

Beautiful work, Shama. But such folk arts are diminishing. Good post. Children & adults can now easily learn this wonderful puppet art and practice.
